Castle Mountain Bungalow Camp
Last updated:
Bow Valley Parkway
Located at the junction of the Bow Valley Parkway and the Banff-Windermere Highway, beneath the tiered cliffs of Castle Mountain. It was established in the 1920s as part of the CPR Bungalow Camp network.
Roadside Heritage
The camp was specifically designed to serve the new wave of motor tourists following the completion of the Banff-Windermere Highway (Hwy 93S) in 1923. It offered a convenient stopping point midway between Banff and Lake Louise.
Current Status
Unlike many other CPR camps that were dismantled or significantly changed, the site continues to operate as the Castle Mountain Chalets. While the buildings have been modernized, the layout and the tradition of independent cabin-style lodging at this historic crossroads remain intact.
