Moraine Lake Bungalow Camp

Moraine Lake

Established by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1920, the Moraine Lake Bungalow Camp was the first formal accommodation at Moraine Lake. It preceded the modern Moraine Lake Lodge and played a central role in making the Valley of the Ten Peaks accessible to overnight visitors.

Evolution

Originally consisting of a small number of cabins and a central dining tent, it was later expanded with more permanent log structures. The camp provided a base for hikers and climbers exploring the Larch Valley and Sentinel Pass.

Transition

The camp operated for several decades under various managements. In the early 1990s, the original rustic structures were replaced by the current lodge designed by Arthur Erickson, which maintained the tradition of lakeshore lodging while providing modern amenities. The site remains the only commercial accommodation in the Moraine Lake basin.
