Lakeshore
The most prominent landmark on the Lake Louise shoreline. Originally a simple log cabin built by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in 1890, it evolved through several iterations and fires into the current grand hotel.
History
The first structure, “Challet Lake Louise,” was built by Cornelius Van Horne to accommodate early mountain tourists. After a series of expansions and a major fire in 1924, the current Barott and Blackader-designed wing was completed in 1925. The hotel played a central role in the development of Canadian alpinism, hosting the first Swiss Guides who pioneered many routes in the High Rockies.
Features
It is associated with several dining rooms, including the Walliser Stube and Lakeview Lounge, and with winter lakefront traditions such as skating and Ice Magic. Hotel services, dining, events, guest amenities, and booking details change by season and should be confirmed directly with Fairmont. The lakeshore area also serves as the primary trailhead for the Plain of Six Glaciers and Lake Agnes trails.
