Mount Fay

Valley of the Ten Peaks

Mount Fay is Peak One of the Ten Peaks above Moraine Lake, anchoring the eastern end of the valley wall. In Samuel Allen’s original Stoney Nakoda numbering it was Heejee, the word for one.

Moraine Lake role

From the Rockpile, Mount Fay is one of the first summits to catch sunrise. Together with Mount Little and Mount Bowlen, it creates the glowing eastern edge of the classic Moraine composition.

Fay Glacier

The mountain’s north face carries the Fay Glacier, whose meltwater and suspended rock flour are central to Moraine Lake’s colour. From the back of the lake and from Consolation Lakes, the glacier-mountain pairing is one of the clearest pieces of the valley’s hydrologic story.

In the range

Mount Fay is both an individual summit and part of the broader Wenkchemna wall. That is typical of the valley. Visitors may not know the name, but they already know the shape.
