Highline Trail

Lake Louise Lakeshore

A connecting trail that links the Lake Agnes Tea House to the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House without descending to lake level. The Highline Trail traverses the Big Beehive slopes and the hanging valley, forming the backbone of the “Beehive Circuit” or “Tea House Challenge” loop.

Route. From Lake Agnes, ascend the Big Beehive switchbacks; the Highline branches off and crosses high above the Lake Louise shoreline toward the Plain of Six Glaciers. The full loop (Lake Agnes → Big Beehive → Highline → Plain of Six Glaciers → lakeshore return) totals ~14.6–20 km with 625–1,000+ m elevation gain; one of the most popular day hikes in Banff National Park.

History. Edward Feuz Jr. and the Swiss guides developed the trail network. The Highline allowed climbers bound for Abbot Pass Hut to traverse from Lake Agnes to the Plain of Six Glaciers as a way-station. See Lake Louise Tea House System.
