Jasper National Park

11,000 km²

Canada’s largest national park in the Rocky Mountains, established in 1907 and encompassing ~11,000 km². Jasper lies north of Banff National Park, linked by the Icefields Parkway (232 km). Governed by Parks Canada.

The park contains the Columbia Icefield, Athabasca Glacier, and critical habitat for Southern Mountain Caribou. The Tonquin and Brazeau caribou herds; both non-viable without intervention; are the focus of the Caribou Conservation Breeding Centre near Athabasca Falls.
