Bow Falls
Banff
A cascade on the Bow River near the town of Banff in Banff National Park. The falls form where the river narrows and drops over resistant limestone bedrock; a landmark visible from the Banff Springs Hotel and popular with photographers and walkers.
Historically, the main stem of the Bow below Bow Falls was habitat for Bull Trout and other native fish; dams and fragmentation have altered downstream ecology. The falls are accessible via a short trail from downtown Banff and mark a transition between the mountain reaches and the lower Bow Valley.
