Mount Mary Vaux
Jasper National Park
A 3,208 m (10,522 ft) peak in Jasper National Park, named in 1908 by Mary Schäffer Warren in honour of Mary Vaux Walcott; botanist, glacial photographer, and mountaineer. Walcott was a pioneering figure in the Canadian Rockies: first woman to summit a peak over 10,000 ft in Canada (Mount Stephen, 1900), founding member of the Alpine Club of Canada, and producer of the definitive botanical record North American Wild Flowers.
The peak sits between Maligne Pass and Maligne Lake and offers sweeping views of the western Jasper backcountry and Columbia Icefields. Mount Mary Vaux Campground, a fully equipped backcountry site, provides access for multi-day trips. Not to be confused with Mount Vaux in Yoho National Park, named for William Sandys Wright Vaux (British antiquarian).
