Plain of Six Glaciers
Lake Louise Lakeshore
A vast amphitheatre of rock and ice at the head of the Lake Louise valley at ~2,100 m, surrounded by six glaciers visible from the plain: Victoria, Lefroy, Fuhrmann, Popes, Aberdeen, and Lower Victoria. The glaciers feed the Bow River headwaters via Lake Louise and Louise Creek. Reached by a 5.5 km trail from the Chateau (11 km round-trip, 360–370 m gain), passing the Lake Louise shoreline and ascending through glacial delta and lateral moraines. The trail offers views of frequent summer avalanches and icefalls off the hanging glaciers of Mount Victoria and Mount Lefroy.
The Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House (built 1927) sits among alpine meadows that bloom with wildflowers in July and August. The area was a way-station for mountaineers bound for Abbot Pass Hut. The Highline Trail connects the tea house to Lake Agnes and the Big Beehive; forming the Beehive Circuit or Tea House Challenge loop. See Lake Louise Tea House System.
