The Rockpile

Moraine Lake

A mound of glacial debris (moraine) at the outlet of Moraine Lake, providing the iconic viewpoint seen in countless photos. The Rockpile is a short 0.7 km loop from the Moraine Lake parking area, gaining about 35 m. It is one of the most photographed spots in Canada.

The rockpile was deposited by glaciers during the last ice age. The view across the lake to the Ten Peaks has appeared on the back of the 1969 and 1979 Canadian twenty-dollar bill.
