Alpha Legace
Alpha Legace was the front-end counterpart to her husband Ray Legace’s backcountry outfitting. While Ray ran pack trains to Skoki Lodge and Temple Lodge, Alpha managed operations at the Lake Louise Ski Lodge (now the Post Hotel) in Lake Louise village and was the gatekeeper for backcountry access.
Transport. Alpha sold tickets for the “transport”; the vehicle shuttle that took skiers and hikers from the village up to the Temple Lodge trailhead. She ensured guests and supplies reached Ray’s teams on time, becoming the organized force behind the Legace operation. Her presence at the Post Hotel made her a central figure in the social and logistical life of Lake Louise.
Partnership. Together with Ray, Alpha was central to the tight-knit Lake Louise community. Pat Haney (née Fiddes), who worked with Alpha at the Post Hotel, recalled the Legaces as mentors and family. The Legaces sold the outfitting business to the Mickle family in 1961.
