Manager of the first Chateau Lake Louise from 1890 to 1894. In 1890, Astley named the Big Beehive and Little Beehive for their resemblance to traditional European straw beehives (skeps); part of the CPR effort to “domesticate” the wild scenery and make it relatable to wealthy tourists.
