Lindsey Vonn

American alpine ski racer who holds the record for the most World Cup victories at a single resort by any skier; 18 wins at the Lake Louise Ski Resort between 2004 and 2018. Her dominance earned the resort the nickname “Lake Lindsey” and the run once known as Ladies Downhill was renamed Lake Lindsey Way in her honour.

Lake Louise record: Vonn’s wins span downhill, super-G, and combined events during the annual FIS Alpine World Cup races held at Lake Louise early each season. Her first Lake Louise win came in a downhill on December 1, 2004. She achieved multiple “hat-tricks” (winning three consecutive races in a weekend): in 2011 (two downhills and a super-G), 2012, and 2015. In 2011 she won a downhill by 1.95 seconds; her largest career victory margin. In 2015 she swept all three events despite prior knee injuries. By 2016 she had surpassed Renate Götschl’s previous record of 10 wins at one venue.

Why Lake Louise: The resort’s steep, high-speed courses suited her aggressive style, and favorable early-season conditions gave her strong season starts. Vonn cited Lake Louise as her favourite stop; strong showings there often correlated with overall World Cup titles; she won four. She called the resort her favourite venue on the circuit.
