Von Roll Sedan Gondola
Lift
Base
Built 1959
The original Whitehorn gondola; a detachable Von Roll from near the Trans-Canada Highway up to Whitehorn Lodge. Built in 1959; the longest gondola in North America at the time, and the second sideways (cable car) lift in North America after Disneyland. Two-passenger cabins with sideways seating. Pre-dated the Olympic Chair and Poma lifts; the lower “highway” pod was abandoned after removal, but the line is still visible on the slope. Last summer use 1991; replaced by the Grizzly Gondola and other lifts.
