Boomerang

Blue Back Bowls

The primary egress from the Summit Chair to the Paradise Chair and Ptarmigan Chair; a long, sweeping intermediate run (~1.5 miles, vertical drop 1,188 ft) in the Back Bowls. Named for its shape: the trail forms a lazy loop that “boomerangs” skiers around the alpine bowls. Average pitch ~24°; sections steepen where moguls form. Access requires traversing Windy Gap; a narrow col often wind-scoured to bedrock; snow farming and grooming maintain the traverse.

Wind-loading. Prevailing westerlies deposit dry powder into the lee-side bowl; surface is often “creamy” packed powder; sought after by intermediate and advanced skiers. Despite its blue rating, Boomerang’s sustained pitch and late-afternoon bumps make it a lactate accumulator in the Leg Burner patrol race. See Whitehorn Back Bowls for avalanche and snow-safety context.
