Instructors Gully

Black Diamond West Bowl

Steep gully terrain in the West Bowl (formerly slackcountry), named for a 1989 incident when a ski instructor led a group under the ropes into a closed area and triggered an avalanche. No one was injured, but the name serves as a permanent cautionary tale about terrain safety; part of the resort’s “shame and fame” run-naming tradition.
