Lake Louise Lakeshore

Bird's-eye diagonal view of the Chateau and lake above the main lakeshore. Short and steep.

Relatively quiet compared to the main lakeshore trails. Dense forest; make noise - active bear corridor.

Accessible most of the year. Roots become slippery when wet; microspikes advisable into early June and from mid-October.

Short but steep ascent; diagonal bird's-eye view of Lake Louise and the Chateau that shoreline visitors miss. Root-laden; can be slippery in shoulder season (microspikes often useful). Fairview Wildlife Corridor; verify current Parks Canada wildlife guidance. Can loop via Saddleback. Fairview Mountain summit is a separate 1,014 m ascent.

A strong "short and steep" hike for those who want a bird's-eye view of the Chateau without the time commitment of the Beehives.

The Route Visit

The trail begins near the boathouse on the southern shore. It climbs steeply through a dense forest, crossing several root-heavy sections that require careful stepping.

  • The Lookout Platform: A wooden platform provides a clear vantage point looking back across the lake toward the hotel.
  • Wildlife Corridor: You are hiking through a critical wildlife corridor. It is very common to see bear activity here.

Safety & Logistics

  • Bear Spray Mandatory: Due to the density of the forest and the wildlife corridor, never hike this trail without bear spray.
  • Slippery Roots: In wet weather, the tree roots become incredibly slick. Trekking poles are helpful.

Photography Tips

  • The Toy Chateau: The perspective from here makes the hotel look small against the valley.
  • Morning light: The sun often hits the Chateau directly in the morning, making it a strong time for photos.
