Wide former road with trackset classic-ski lanes and a skate lane when maintained. Dog access is restricted; verify current rules. Avalanche terrain begins beyond the groomed viewpoint area.

A signature Lake Louise cross-country route. This wide, former road offers a steady, gentle climb with broad views of the Valley of the Ten Peaks.

Tracksetting & Terrain

  • Grooming: Double trackset with a wide skate lane in the center.
  • Distance: 8.0 km one-way to the Consolation Lakes junction (16 km return).
  • Elevation: 250 m steady gain.

Winter Terrain & Avalanche Risk

The groomed section to the viewpoint is commonly treated as the winter ski objective when Parks Canada has it open and trackset. Beyond the end of grooming near the Consolation Lakes junction, the road enters serious avalanche terrain with overhead hazards from Mt. Temple. Check Parks Canada and avalanche.ca before choosing this route.

Ski Etiquette

  • Dogs: Dog access is commonly restricted to preserve grooming; verify the current Parks Canada trail report before bringing one.
  • Downhill Yield: Skiers descending have the right of way, but on this wide road, there is usually room to pass safely. Stay in your tracks.
