Offline-ready
Take the Field Guide with you
Save the site to your phone or laptop. Live data (weather, roads, river levels, resort status) shows the last synced snapshot with a freshness badge when you're offline.
Detecting your device...
Save the whole site for offline use
One tap caches every page on this device (roughly 35 MB). Anything you already visited is already cached; this just fills in the rest. The worker keeps each page fresh as content changes.
Ready.
A note for iPhone & iPad
iOS Safari gives each site a small offline storage budget (around 50 MB) and clears cached pages if the site goes a week without being opened. Practical advice:
- Open the Field Guide once a week, or right before you head out, so the cache stays fresh.
- You can pick which sections to save here. Skipping the resort section frees the most space if you don't ski.
EU iPhones: Apple briefly suggested removing web-app installs in iOS 17.4 in the EU and then reversed that decision. PWAs install and run on iOS Safari in the EU the same as everywhere else. Nothing you need to do differently.
Choose what to save
Pick the categories that match how you use the site. The bar below tracks rough size against iOS's typical budget.
0/50 MB(0 pages)
Over the iOS budget. iOS Safari may evict pages to fit. Consider unchecking a category.
Ready.
This browser doesn't support service workers, so the offline-save feature isn't available. Most of the static guide will still work from the browser's own HTTP cache after you've visited a page once.
Install to your home screen
The site becomes a standalone app icon. Loads faster, hides the browser chrome, and the offline cache lives in its own bucket so it survives normal Safari history clears.
iPhone & iPad (Safari)
- Open the share menu (the square with the up-arrow) at the bottom.
- Scroll and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Pick a name and tap Add.
Chrome and Firefox on iOS share Safari's engine and follow the same flow.
Android (Chrome)
- Open Chrome's three-dot menu.
- Tap Add to Home screen or Install app.
- Confirm the name and tap Add.
Chrome may show a banner offering the same; tap it instead if you see it.
Desktop (Chrome, Edge, Brave)
- Look for the install icon in the address bar (a monitor with a down-arrow).
- Click it and confirm.
- The Field Guide opens in its own window from then on.
Firefox doesn't support PWA install on desktop; bookmark the site instead.

- Search
