Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing Gondola

Lake Louise Ski Resort

In summer, the Lake Louise Ski Resort operates lifts for sightseeing on Mount Whitehorn. Riders take the enclosed Grizzly Gondola or an open quad chairlift to roughly 2,088 m, with broad views across the Bow Valley and surrounding peaks.

Grizzly and wildlife viewing

The sightseeing lifts offer one of the best and safest places in the Canadian Rockies to look for grizzly bears. The ski area overlaps important female grizzly habitat, and the lift crosses the Whitehorn wildlife corridor. Animals remain wild and sightings are never guaranteed.

Riders also see black bears, moose, elk, and occasionally lynx or gray wolves. Watching from the lift provides distance while reducing disturbance on the ground.

At the top

A Wildlife Interpretive Centre presents the ecology of the mountain and its large mammals. Guided interpretive walks explore the upper mountain; wildflowers typically peak in July and August. Whitehorn Bistro serves food at the top.

The lift reaches terrain that becomes the ski area’s Back Bowls in winter. The resort’s original lift was the Von Roll gondola; the current Grizzly Gondola dates to 2004.

Riding it

Visitors choose between the enclosed gondola and the open chairlift. The gondola offers shelter, while the chair provides unobstructed views. Both load from the resort base at the Lake Louise Park and Ride.

The sightseeing season typically runs from early June to mid-October during daytime hours. Confirm operating dates, hours, and tickets with the Lake Louise Ski Resort before planning.
